  • Communicate Clearly: Use clear and positive language when interacting with students. Ensure your instructions are kind as well as easy to understand and follow.

  • Encourage Inclusivity: Promote an inclusive environment where every student feels welcomed and valued.

  • Be Observant: Keep an eye on student behavior, especially in high-traffic areas like slides, wave pools, and the lazy river.

Don'ts:

Things to Watch Out For

Student Conduct:

  • Bullying or Exclusion: Be vigilant for signs of bullying, exclusion, or any form of mistreatment among students. Step in if necessary and report any incidents.

  • Unsafe Behavior: Watch for students engaging in unsafe behavior, such as roughhousing near water, defying rules, or going into restricted areas.

  • Health Issues: Look out for students who may be feeling unwell, fatigued, or showing signs of distress. Ensure they receive prompt attention.

Chaperone Conduct:

  • Professionalism: Ensure that other chaperones are interacting with students appropriately and professionally. Remember, we are the adults in the room, they are the students, and we expect behavior and choices to illustrate that difference.

  • Boundaries: If you observe another chaperone crossing boundaries or engaging in inappropriate behavior, report it immediately to event leadership. This is not something to wait until morning to address.

  • Teamwork: Support fellow chaperones and work together to maintain a safe environment. Address any concerns among your team as they arise.
